Company Overview:

 Lanier Aluminum Products is a family owned business specializing in fabricating and installing custom decorative and functional outdoor shade structures and awnings.  We have been serving commercial and residential customers since 1979.  We sew and weld on site.  All our workers are insured.

 

Job Description:

 We are seeking a reliable full time employee to manufacture and install canvas awnings and other fabric goods. The position involves handling and sewing heavy vinyl and canvas fabric on an industrial sewing machine. Prior sewing experience is required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pay close attention to detail
  • Demonstrate basic sewing machine knowledge (needle changes, thread changes, bobbin changes, pattern, cut, measure and assemble).
  • Be a team player
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Be over 18 and be drug free
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Accurately maintain start and stop time on work orders in a timely manner
  • Check for quality control
  • Inventory materials
  • Ability and willingness to assist other departments to meet schedule deadlines when needed

 

Physical Duties

  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and strength to pull fabric when attaching it to a frame.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and standup to 8 hours per day performing various tasks
  • Work well with hands
  • Able to climb on top of table when necessary

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Accurately read a tape measure to 1/16”
  • Excellent decimal and fraction skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Operate and maintain various single and double needle machines
  • Must be able to read, speak and understand written and verbal directions
  • Layout, pattern, cut out and assemble all fabric components for any given project
  • Able to handle heavy fabrics such as canvas and vinyl
  • Stitch binding tape or zippers to fabric
  • Stamp grommets into edges of products using mallet and punch or machine
  • Math skills in order to calculate and layout fabric awning parts, calculate amount of fabric needed for each project
  • Operate various electric tools such as a hot knife and fabric seam welder, among others
  • Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread or machine malfunctions
  • Use clamps and templates
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate
  • Follow approved procedures to complete all tasks
  • Make the requirements of quality and schedule a priority
  • Experience with graphics a plus, but we are willing to train

 

 Working Hours:

  • Full Time, 8:00 – 5:00
  • Monday through Friday
  • Overtime as required

 

Compensation

  • Based on experience
  • Paid holidays and vacation after 1 year
